Clayton Roy Brower was born in 1922 in Kingston, New York. He earned a Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Syracuse University, served in the army, and later earned a Doctorate from Columbia University. He began teaching in 1948 in Pulaski, New York, was the assistant superintendent of Plainfield Public Schools in 1955, then became professor and Chair of the Education Department at Trenton State College in 1962. In 1970, he became Interim chief executive, then president from 1971 to 1979. He died at the age of 99 on June 30, 2022.

Nellie Hoffman was born on December 18, 1872, to Martha A. Watters and Cyrus A. Hoffman in Califon/Tewksbury, New Jersey. She began her career teaching second and third grades at Hunterdon County Schools before enrolling in the New Jersey State Normal School at Trenton. At the Normal School, she received high grades and the partially disparaging final evaluation in Grade Books and Reports, volume 1 on page 38 of “Unattractive in person, but character of real worth. Has a good mind and teaches well.” She graduated in June 1897 with a certificate to teach Intermediate classes. She taught seventh and eighth grades in Oceanic Public Schools, and by 1904, she was Vice Principal of Succassuna Public School in Califon. She later married Robert Beatty Ward and had two children: Vincent Hoffman (1908-1991), and Lucile Elizabeth (Rinck) (1910-1997). They settled in Schooley’s Mountain, Washington Township, Morris County. According to the census, she later worked as a stone cutter with her husband’s monument business. She died on October 4, 1962.

Anna “Annie” Maria Lake was born on September 12, 1880, to Mary Ann Chester and John Hammitt Lake, a sea captain, in Port Norris, New Jersey. It is unknown if she attended any teacher training school (although several of her childhood classmates attended the New Jersey State Normal School), but by the 1900 census, she was listed as a school teacher in Port Norris where she lived with her widowed father and younger siblings. On June 24, 1908, she married Frank Mortimer Lore (1880-1950) who was a carpenter working in shipbuilding. They had two children: Frances M. (Horner) (1911-2001; who also was a schoolteacher), and Jean (Spaeth) (1915-1993). Annie died April 18, 1964, in Glassboro, New Jersey.

Martha Bennett Sherman was born in 1879, in Bristol, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Asbury Park, New Jersey. She graduated from the Normal School in 1899. She taught in an elementary school in Succasunna, New Jersey, until her marriage to Theodore Reger. She died in 1966 in Colonia, New Jersey
