Administrative history
Founded in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School, The College of New Jersey is the oldest teacher training college in the state and the ninth oldest in the nation. Originally located in downtown Trenton, the college expanded academically and physically, and later moved to suburban Ewing Township in the 1930s.
Over the years, the name of the college has changed to reflect its expanding mission.

Scope and content
The image shows the students and faculty members of the Model School graduating class of 1911. The people in the photograph are sitting and standing in front of the closed doors of front of the Normal School. The student in the center second row of the image is holding a block painted with the word "1911." A very large, triangular pennant attached to a pole has "1911" displayed on it. The pennant is held by two students at the top of the image. The verso/back of the image has the following text written upon it: "Helen C. Cook 305 Hamilton 30732 -- BUI 69 75. [cents symbol]"
