        James Marion Buchanan was born to State Librarian Henry Clay Buchanan in 1883. His sister was Mary Foss Buchanan (Model 1895) and brother was Malcolm Griswold Buchanan (Model 1896). He attended the Model School where he was a member in the Thencanic Society and graduated in 1900. He went on to Princeton University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He died in 1958 in Maplewood, New Jersey.
